As an international student on budget, taking up a part-time job can become a must. You should not consider it as a chore but as an opportunity to get valuable experience in the new country you have selected for yourself! Keep in mind though, that earnings from your part-time job(s) will help you in supporting your living expenses in Canada but you should not solely rely on them even for your tuition fees. Moreover, be open while applying for part-time jobs as these are not for your resume but to help you cope up in a new country. So, yes, you might not get a part-time job in the field of your study but that is completely okay!

Some popular jobs that international students take up part-time along with their studies in Canada are given below.

1. Server / Bartender
Interested in the service industry or just want a job that can be done at nights / weekends only, then this is a perfect one for you. It’s not the highest paying job per hour in Canada, but you can expect a 15-20% tip along with the hourly rate making it a good deal for you. Even though it is definitely a fun job, but it is not a piece of cake too! You will get tired at the end of your gig.
Average Earning: CA$ 11 per hour + tips

2. Uber / Lyft driver or a Delivery Person
If you have a car at your disposal along with a valid driver’s licence, then this job is for you. This job not only offers a good pay rate, but also offers great accessibility & flexibility. It need not be mentioned that your total earnings will depend on how often you drive. If you don’t have a car, consider becoming a delivery partner for any of the food delivery companies out there. All you need is a bicycle and lots of enthusiasm.

3. Sales Person
You can always consider becoming a sales person at the many stores and shopping centres in your neighbourhood or the city centre. This job offers steady pay and you might even earn small commissions on the sales that you make. The pace of the job will depend on where you will work and will vary from a clothing store to a supermarket.

If you like dogs, there’s good news for you! People in Canada are willing to pay to take their dog for a walk to accommodate for their busy lifestyles. There are plenty of dog walking businesses that you could apply to, or you could work for yourself. Do check the rules and regulations of the city you are located in before going solo as you might need to obtain a licence in certain cities. But, nothing very cumbersome.

5. Teacher’s Assistant
If you have some experience in teaching or just like assisting others, a lot of teachers and professors in Canada hire teacher’s assistants to help them with tutoring students, creating lesson plans, facilitating class and checking paper works. You might not be required to have lots of work experience to be selected but again this depends on the teacher or professor who is hiring. That being said, you should definitely try your luck!
